Pan is a well-known card game in Poland, played with a specialized 24-card deck featuring nines, tens, jacks, queens, kings, and aces, arranged from lowest to highest value.
To commence the game, all cards are distributed among the players, and the player holding the nine of hearts initiates by placing it on the table. Subsequently, players take turns following a predetermined sequence. A card can be played only if its value matches or exceeds that of the top card on the table. If a player is unable or unwilling to play a card, they must draw the top three cards from the deck, excluding the initial nine of hearts.
Players have the option to play either a single card or four cards of the same value at once. There’s also a provision for playing three cards under certain conditions, which may vary depending on the specific ruleset. Additionally, there exists a variant known as “spades reverse,” wherein the turn shifts back to the previous player whenever a spade card is played.
The round concludes when a player exhausts their hand, earning them a letter (P-A-N). The first player to accumulate all three letters loses the entire match.
